Summary: When Harvey and Mike are called into Jessica's office, they're convinced she has discovered the truth about Mike's past. And she has, just not in the way they anticipated. It's revealed that Mike isn't actually an American citizen, and Harvey does what he always does: covers for Mike. He says the first idea that comes into his head, which just happens to result in Harvey telling the American government that he and Mike are getting married.
Authors Notes: So, this is AU because, apart from Mike's past, there are a few other minor changes. In terms of canon, only the events of season one occurred in this verse, so no one knows the truth about Mike's lack of law degree. Also, characters that are dead in canon are alive and well here because of reasons. (I wrote this before season three started, so Harvey's brother has a different name, and Gordon might be slightly different than in canon.)
This is 40k of domestic goodness and zero plot, so consider yourselves warned. :O)
It probably won't take you too long to work out that the core of this fic was inspired by The Proposal, but it's definitely it's own story.

The statement was delivered without heat, a twinkle in his eyes, and Harvey couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't an accurate account by any stretch of the imagination, but before he could protest Mike was up off the couch and heading over to it. He sat on the soft bench and lifted the fallboard, his fingers gliding reverently over the keys.

Summary: Even as Mike was saying the words he knew it was a mistake. There is no going back from something like that, but maybe that's what he wanted, that self destruction, a final fuck you to Harvey and the world at large. Intellectually and with the wisdom of distance Mike knows he should've done anything other than tell Rachel, that maybe his relationship with Harvey would've been salvageable had it not been for this one last thing. But now he knows that there is no way back from this.
That's it. It's all over. He has officially lost everything he cares about.
Authors Notes: Yet another in the 'Mike's secret gets found out/Mike gets fired/Mike quits' sub-genre which I have written a crazy amount of fic for. One day I will stop writing these fics.

The lie had tasted so bitter on his tongue, and he never imagined lying under oath in this way. He could stomach perjuring himself to protect Mike, but lying to denounce him made his skin crawl.

Summary: He would be lying if he said he wasn't tempted. Because he has known Mike for a grand total of twenty minutes and already knows that Mike would work hard, could excel if given the chance. And more than that, he likes this kid, his bravado and cheek, the way he can give back as good as he gets. And Harvey only expected to find someone he could tolerate; he never anticipated finding someone he actually liked. But he can't do it. He would be betraying Jessica - she’s done so much for him, more than he could ever enumerate, and hiring someone with no degree is not a fine way to repay her. So as much as he wants to go back, to say, "You're hired, you start on Monday," he can't. He won't. Instead he says, "The coast is clear." [AU in which Harvey doesn't hire Mike in the pilot episode.]
Authors Notes: Ever since I started writing Harvey/Mike fics I wanted to write an AU in which Harvey doesn't hire Mike, but could never really figure out the story. And when I eventually started writing this I got about 4000 words in and hated it. I liked the idea of it, but the execution was just really terrible. When I mentioned this on tumblr, debating whether to just throw it out or keep going, everyone was really supportive, encouraging me to keep writing. So I did something I've never done before - I started the fic again from scratch, and it was ten times better the second time around.
So a big thanks to all my tumblr peeps who encouraged me to keep going (because I probably would have abandoned this fic if it weren't for you guys), and most especially to my dearsmartalli - who looked at my original draft and was a great sounding board and cheerleader and beta. You are my queen of contractions and I love you and am so very thankful for you.
(Also, LJ sucks and won't let me post this on one entry, so the fic is actually a one shot posted in two entries :O( )
( Harvey should just let him go, but instead he finds himself pulling a business card from his suit jacket pocket and, even more incredibly, scribbling his personal cell number on the back before handing it over. )

And he has this theory, barely constructed and ethereal at best, that maybe if they did spend some time alone together, that they would discover the true bounds of their relationship...

Because he learnt not only from his mistakes but the mistakes of others, and he trusted Harvey, more than anyone he had ever met, and if there was a way out of this then Harvey would find it. Only he didn't. He tried, Mike knows that he did, but there was no way back, only the inevitable way forward. And when Jessica told him that he was fired he didn't fight or yell or display any other overt emotion. He was eerily calm, because Mike had seen this coming, not just when he realized the gravity of his error, but years before.
