(because I am tired and lazy, this is copied from the email I sent my family :O) )

Greetings from the Big Apple.

I arrived safe and sound ... more or less. I was stressing about the plane ride here beforehand and it turns out that was for good reason - there were problems nearly every step of the way. Good times. Not. But at least I made it here in one piece so I guess I can't complain too much.

The hotel has done renovations since the last time I was here. The rooms are much nicer (Laura, they remind me of the rooms at the Sofitel Baltimore - only in mint green) and even though I booked a single room they have given me one with two beds. Anyone feel like flying over and occupying it?? :O)

I got my first full nights sleep last night. Thank God, coz if I had one more night of three hours of sleep I might have started to go insane. I also ate my first decent meal last night too - I think the flight-induced nausea decided to stick around after I touched down because I wasnt hungry at all for days.

So, what I have I done in the three whole days I have been here? I have seen two shows, done a bit (okay, a lot) of shopping, wandered around the Village, seen a movie and done lots of walking.

The shows: the first show I saw was Equus. The show was quite intense and affecting, and the conclusion to both acts had me absolutely enthralled. It really was genuinely stunning. The other show I have seen is Shrek the Musical. It was very funny - most of the classic lines from the movie were in the show but there was also a lot of good new stuff in there too. My fave was probably Lord Farquaad - the actor is six something feet tall and performs the show on his knees!

The shopping: I figured that I would do as much shopping as I could as soon as I could before the mad pre-Christmas rush starts. And I don't know if its the possibly impending recession or just pre-Christmas sales but so much is on sale. I went to Macy's today and almost everything I bought was drastically reduced (eg: the best buy was something that normally cost $25 cost me $5).

The weather here isnt great. It has been raining almost constantly for the last two days. I tell myself I wont let that interfere with my plans for the day but after walking around in the rain I inevitably get sick of it quite quickly. It's been quite cool (-5 degrees the afternoon I landed), which I dont mind at all, it's the wind and rain that kinda annoys me.

So, whats next. I think tomorrow I might start on my list of Museums I want to see, or try and finish off all the shopping I want to do, maybe explore Central Park or just wander the streets. Who knows? (though I'm guessing the weather might have a say in it)

Well, I suppose thats it. Hope everyone is well. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know whats happening back in Oz. Hopefully next time I want to go online it wont take me four attempts to do it (the hotel really needs to invest in more computers - two just ain't enough).

Well, this is it folks. My final post before I fly out to New York. In 24 hours I will be on a plane, having just started what essentially equals about 24 hours of travel. Fun times. I am almost completely packed and have entered into my pre-trip freak out stage (which got worse yesterday when I found out what I have to do during my 80 minute transit at LAX - lets just say there is a high probability of missing my plane, both on my trip to and from NY).

I will hopefully be be able to check my LJ a couple of times while I'm in NY so feel free to drop me a line if you want. Otherwise, I will be back in Oz on December 23 (assuming I make my plane in LA *stresses*).

Also, in other news, I am going to be an aunt again!!! My younger sister is pregnant with her first child. Fuzzy (the nickname of the baby) is due in June 2009. So we are all very excited. And it's great that my nephew will have a cousin close in age (they will be less than a year apart). Oh, and sis also got engaged to her partner about a week after they told us about the baby. So we get to plan a wedding too!! :O)

Anyway, hope everyone out there is doing okay. Feel free to link to me anything you want me to see while I'm away.

I bought an iPod Touch. :O)

I was going to be smart and logical and buy the classic for the massive amount of storage. But damn if the touch screen and prettiness of the touch didnt win me over. I'm weak, what can I say? ;O)

Only three more work days left of the year.

And this time next week, I will be in a plane to America!!!

I AM GOING TO SEE COLDPLAY!

When I heard they were coming out here I knew I wanted to see them - I have gotten onbaord the Coldplay train after years of loving their singles and buying their back catalogue over the last year or so. So I asked my sisters and my brothers girlfriend if anyone wanted to go ... and was totally shut down by them all. And to be honest I wasnt all that surprised.

Then, at work yesterday arvo, one of the guys here was talking about how excited he was to buy tickets today. I lamented my lack of anyone to go with so he invited me to go see it with him, and one of the teachers we work with.

So he bought tickets this morning and I am going and it will be awesome.

:O)

In other news, I have five work days left (not including today) and about ten days (not including today) until my holiday. Holy crap its really happening.

Eeeek.

In two months I will be jetting off to New York. OMG its really going to happen. And in the meantime I get to watch the Aussie dollar be crap and lose 20c over the last few months and continue on a downward spiral. Not that it will really affect how much money I will spend in NYC - I'll buy what I want when I want regardless of the exchange rate. But still, it would be nice to not have to pay 30% extra on everything. *shrug*

I watched Lost in Austen, more out of curiosity than anything else, but damn if it didnt suck me in. I can't believe I didnt hate it. Also, how awesome was last weeks Ugly Betty! Three words: shippiest episode ever. And the end of the season premiere of Greys Anatomy. *clings* (okay, I'm being a bit vague, but I dont want to spoil my Aussies, and LJ cuts are pointless when someone might want to read the entry for other things. Does anyone out there know how to do that spoiler/highlighting text - maybe that would solve all my problems)

I've also downloaded the first few eps of True Blood and Secret Diary of a Call girl but havent watched it yet - so much TV, so little time.

Also, on an unrelated note, this whole daylight savings thing is so messing with me. Its too early damnit! And I'm sick of it screwing me over. Ugh.

Not much else to say really. God I'm boring. And I am totally over work too. Whats happening with all you guys?? Someone entertain me. :O)

ETA: I have gotten vaguely spoilery for Greys in comments, but nothing really major. :O)

I havent posted in a while, huh? So here is a quick update:

* Have been doing some study. I've been freaking out because the due dates are approaching and I feel like I should have done more work by now.

* Saw Wall-E. OMG so totally cute.

* Work is quiet coz its holidays and there are no students. Yay!

* Am falling a bit behind on my TV shows. I have decided to watch House on normal TV since its been fasttracked (alas that means no Spicks and Specks). Yay for Life being back. I missed the first ep of In Treatment but caught the second ep and taped the third ep last night. Project Runway US has just started airing. I actually downloaded and watched the first couple of eps when it started but since Aussie PR was on at the same time it got a bit disorientating so I stopped watching it. I still have to catch up on this weeks Gossip Girl, and all the Heroes and Greys Anatomy and Dexter eps. *flails* So much TV, so little time.

* I'm waiting every day for my order from Amazon of Gossip Girl S1 and Ugly Betty S2. Its not due for a few weeks but I really want them. *is impatient*

* Did any of my fellow DMB fans squee when one of their songs was used in House this week (or last week for my Americans)? :O)

* My nephew is growing up and is still gorgeous.

* I watched the original Funny Games. Has anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

* What did my Aussies think of Top Gear Australia? I thought it was a bit awkward but I suppose they need time to settle into everything. But please, for the love of God, get the UK boys out here and have a Oz vs UK challenge!!

* Have been feeling pretty average of late. Been a bit depressed I guess. But you dont wanna hear about that so moving right along...

* OMG Rob Guest! RIP. I'm so glad I got to see him on stage in Wicked this year. He will be sorely missed by the Aussie theatre world. Does anyone know if any shows will be cancelled? My sis and I were going to try for the Wicked lottery this weekend.

* Just over two months to my holiday. And every day I watch the American dollar go down. :O( Why didnt I do something (like pay off some accom or get some money out) when it was in the high 90s??? But on the plus side I bought a ticket to Shrek the Musical. Methinks it will either be awesome or suck - either way it will be worth seeing.

* Have not been inspired to do anything creative - no fics, icons, moodthemes, nothing. I miss the days when I was totally energetic and creative.

* I saw a guy on the train this morning who looked exactly like Burn Gorman. So weird.

* I really need more interesting bullet points. Anyone know where I can find some good ones???

I think thats about it. How is everyone out there in LJ land??

ETA: Channel 10 have axed 90210 from Oz screens. Man, another show to add to the download list.

Wow

So today is the 8th of September. I leave for my New York holiday on 8th of December. Its exactly three months away. Man time flies.
*is excited*
*eyes savings account*
*gets nervous*
If only the stupid US dollar wasnt falling every day. Why didnt I send some money to my hotel it was was above 90c?? Oh yeah, coz my hotel took so damn long last time it put me off transferring money. Thats why. *grumbles*

I dont really have anything else to say. LOL

So I got an email about tickets for Equus being available through broadway.com and there was flailing and squeeing on my flist about stage seats, so I thought I would buy a ticket to another show and try my luck. I went to the broadway.com website but there was no mention of stage seats, so I went to telecharge.com and looked for tickets there. I looked at stage seating, but for some reason it made me nervous, so I decided to see what other normal seats I would be able to get for the same performance, thinking it would be in the back half of the theatre like my seat for the first show I'm going to.

It wasn't. It was third row from the front, aisle seat.

I quickly snapped up the ticket, even though part of me is waiting for it to all be revealed as a massive mistake. I thought seats that close would be part of the premium $250 seating and I'm not paying that much. Then I thought I was reading the seating chart wrong, but in the description it stated third row from front.

Here are the details. Someone reassure me that I'm not dreaming and I actually did score awesome tickets:

Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 8:00 PM
1 Ticket, Center Orchestra Row A, Seat 101
Total Cost: $126.00

*flails*

I also bought a ticket to The Little Mermaid. :O) That brings the total of show bought for my NYC trip to four (2 x Equus, 1 x The Little Mermaid, 1 x Cirque du Soleil). I am intrigued by Shrek, and since its opening while I'm there I will have to buy in advance. Otherwise, unless something awesome comes up, I am going to buy all my other tickets while I'm there.

******

In other news, I seriously hurt my back yesterday. I had to leave work I was in so much pain. Chiro had a go at it so hopefully I will feel better soon - although the only other time I have had this problem, in Dec of last year, I'm convinced the only reason I got better was the week away from work, (ie sitting at my desk all day long) and not the multiple trips to the chiro.

As such, I probably wont be online much the next few days, so I obviously wont be checking my flist. I have a fic I want to post maybe tonight but apart from that it will only be very short stints at the computer (ie checking my email and thats it) so if you have something you want me to see please link me.

Oh, and I am about a third of the way through Breaking Dawn, so no spoliers about that thanks.
:O)

Hope everyone out there is doing well.

So, the trailer is out, and its awesome.

I will always be excited about the HP movies, even though I dont do that much in fandom any more.

But something occured to me the other day.

As it stands, the release date for HBP in Australia is December 11 - nearly three weeks after the rest of the world!!! I am hopeful that this will be rectified, like it was for one of the earlier HP movies where the original release date was two months after the UK/USA.

However, if the date isnt changed, I will be in New York by the time the movie is released here. Which means no going to Gold Class with my siser and squeeing as soon as David Thewlis comes on screen.

If the release date stands, I will of course not expect my sis to wait for me and go see it in GC without me, as I see it in a NYC movie theatre (maybe even do a double feature with Twilight??).

If this is the case, any of my Americans (yes, I'm looking at you [livejournal.com profile] letmypidgeonsgo) wanna go see it with me (movie double optional of course)???

In non movie/fandom/holiday related news, work still sucks, people still sucks, and I am counting the hours until the end of the day.

It really shouldnt be this hard...

I am trying to make a payment on my New York accomodation. My reasons are twofold: 1 - the Aussie dollar right now is friggin awesome, 2 - if I can pay it off before I get there it will just make budgeting easier.

So, after:
two faxes
    four emails
        fourteen days
            IT'S STILL NOT DONE!!!!

Seriously, how hard is it? I know being overseas and having half a day time difference complicates things, but seriously, WTF.

And what is with having to fill out a form to get them to deduct the money when I filled in the exact same form to reserve the room in the first place. Why cant they just use the information I already gave them instead of making me send it again???

*grumbles*

On the upside, I'm having a RDO tomorrow which means a four day weekend for me! Looking forward to some Max Brenner food tomorrow. And my parents come home on Monday. Which is good, coz the other day I became convinced that our house is haunted and it will be good to have someone else at home until I can get over it.

Hope everyone out there is doing well!

Boredom and work-avoiding means ... tickers ... :O)

And so as to not make this post completely pointless, I have finally started watching S3 of Doctor Who. Yes, I will always be a good year or two behind on this show. LOL. I am about a third/half way through and loving it.

And how did I not know Kev from Shameless was in an episode?? The man is awesome!

Oh, and for my Americans (or people like me who DL), how awesome is House and Gossip Girl. Seriously. Cannot wait for the final eps of both!! (please to be keeping any comments spoiler free for the Aussies on my flist. cheers.)
tattooedsiren: (xfiles forehead!love)
I really need to stop staring at this pic. But damn isnt it just the prettiest thing ever...

I've booked and paid for my flight. I bought my ticket to Equus. Holy crap I'm really going!!
