Tears & Rain
Viktor stared in shock. He couldn’t believe she was standing on his doorstep. It was close to midnight and pouring rain and she just stood there; drenched, shivering, her breath forming wisps of visible air. She was looking at him but her eyes were unfocused and it was more like she was looking through him.
"Hermione?" he said in disbelief.
She said nothing, nor moved at the sound of his voice. Her arms were crossed over her chest, goosebumps visible on her wet skin. He stepped closer to her and could see that her eyes were red, tears mingling with the raindrops on her cheeks.
He gingerly reached out, lightly touching her arm with his fingertips, her skin cool to the touch. The physical contact had the desired effect, Hermione finally focusing on the man in front of her.
“Vot is it? Are you alright?” he asked. As soon as the words left his mouth he knew it was a stupid question. Of course she wasn’t alright. She had appeared on his doorstep, crying, in the pouring rain after not seeing each other for three years. Something was wrong.
She just looked at him, tears welling in her big, brown eyes. He knew what she was going to do a split second before she did it, his seeker reflexes automatically reaching out and catching her before she fell.
Viktor put an arm around her, hooking his other arm under her legs and picking her up to carry her inside. He kicked the door closed behind him and sat down on the couch, Hermione in his lap.
She buried her face into the crook of his neck and clung to him as she cried. Viktor ran a hand up and down her arm, trying to both warm her skin and comfort her. She said nothing about what was wrong and Viktor didn’t ask. He simply held her, occasionally pressing light kisses to her face and whispering soothing words.
Something must have happened, Viktor mused. The last he heard from her Hermione was on the trail of the last Horcrux. For her to come to him in this fashion something must have happened – either something very good or something very bad.
But none of that mattered right then. All that mattered was that she had come to him; it was him that she needed. He pressed his lips to her temple and gently wiped away her tears. He held her in his arms, never letting go.

Date: 2006-11-12 08:36 pm (UTC)Poor Hermione, I wonder what had happened to her. I guess that something dangerous during the horcrux hunting, something that made her feel powerless and that made her see that she didn't have all the answers. Or perhaps it's easier. She's only a girl, just 18 years, so it can be that she's broken hearted. My last guess is that is finally over, and maybe with a big cost for them. See? Now I have a lot of ideas. Whichever it is, I feel bad for her, because you pictured her pain so raw, so overwhelming.
Viktor, he's always so sweet, and I love how he gives her time, because it seems he has always done that. And he's right, whatever is happening she needed him. And I hope he never let her go...
*sigh* I wish I had a Viktor to comfort me while I sit in his lap when I feel sad. Thanks, my dear, you really cheered me up with this drabble. *hugs*

So I don't dislike V/Hr, there's just a lot of more interesting ships for me. =D
