Title: Surviving Desire
Rating: PG
For [livejournal.com profile] argosy. My first attempt at writing Draco/Hermione so I really hope you like it.

Surviving Desire

Their eyes met, hatred and arrogance shining brightly. But there was something else there. They tried to ignore it, pretending it didn’t exist, but that never worked. It was there.

Desire.

They still fought, verbally as well as with the occasional spell, but their hatred was coming from somewhere else now. It was coming from frustration and confusion, and it was more powerful than before.

Hermione left dinner early, wanting to get some work done. The hallways were empty and silent. She liked the castle best this way, not buzzing with noise, but still and silent.

Suddenly a hand gripped her upper arm, pulling her into a classroom.

Draco Malfoy.

He locked the door behind her and they just stood there staring daggers at each other. Hermione was breathing heavily from the shock of being yanked into the classroom against her will. Draco was breathing heavily for an entirely different reason.

“Let’s get something straight, Granger,” he spat. “No matter what happens I will always despise you.”

“Believe me, Malfoy, the feeling is more than mutual,” she replied icily.

“Good,” he said.

Then they both crashed forward, lips meeting in a heated embrace. Tongues met as they backed up to the door, Draco pushing Hermione against the firm wood, trapping her between the door and his body. She moaned into his mouth, dizzy from the kiss.

With all the strength she possessed, Hermione pushed him off her, unlocked the door and stormed out. She wiped at her mouth, her head swimming.

“I can beat this thing,” she muttered to herself. “I can.”

Hermione had survived a lot of things in her life – a troll, being petrified, duelling with death eaters – so in comparison surviving desire should be a cinch. At least she hoped so.

mmm... kissing in a classroom. Doesn't get any better than that. :) And I really liked how you ended it with her leaving. Smut would have been nice, but that was more powerful. I think you did an extremely credible job for your first D/Hr. Yay!!

Oh and since I'm not above self-promotion, my fic went up at the [livejournal.com profile] dmhgficexchange today, if you feeling like digging in to any more d/hr. Breathe

Thanks for my drabble!

Yay - I'm so glad you liked it. I really dont read much (read: none) D/Hr so I really had no frame of reference, so I'm thrilled you liked it. And I will definitely check out your fic when I have some time - it looks pretty long. :O)

It is very long. Nearly killed me, But one thing in its favor for non-d/hr-ers is that it's about pretty much everyone. Not just those two. Okay it's Hermione-centric and how she has to deal with everyone. Just when you get a chance...
