OMG look a non fic post!! Anyone still here?? :O)

I am attempting to get back into LJ. I don't know how successful I'll be. I think I've forgotten how to blog about my every day life and random thoughts and all those random things I used to write about back in the day. But I shall try.

Hi to all the new (mostly Suits) peeps. Any of the old crew still around? Give me a yell if you are.

So, to get back into the swing of things, here be an update on all things me.

I've been at my current job for over six years. I am really over it. There was a restructure at the end of last year, and it has resulted in me getting the workload of half a full time position on top of my current work, for no extra money. Yup, good times. I am looking for a new job and have an interview next week. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Nothing much has changed in the personal life side of things. Still living alone, still single, still the best aunt in the world (I now have three nephews and two nieces under four - my two sisters have basically been alternating years to have their kids LOL).

I'm trying to do the whole 'eat well/exercise/lose weight' thing, but it's not going well LOL. A couple of years ago I lost about 18kg, but have since put half of it back on. Being the middle of summer probably doesn't help, with the hot weather and all (not to mention christmas and birthdays and holidays/long weekends and busiest time of year at work and everything else that comes with it being January). But I'm trying to keep positive. I'm doing better on the exercise than the food. *shrugs* Keep soldiering on I suppose.

So obviously I'm still all about Suits - despite my issues with this season (which I won't go into here, because everyone who follows me on tumblr is probably well aware). I have a few fics in the works. They are:

• Pilot AU of Doom (ie a fic in which Harvey didn't hire Mike in the pilot episode)
• Harvey and Mike suck at communicating
• another one which I can't really explain what it's about but it was inspired by the random mental image of Harvey watching Mike play piano

I've also written a Derek/Stiles fic. I watched Teen Wolf late last year (thanks tumblr) and when I watched it I was all 'how the fuck did Derek/Stiles become the massive thing it is because in two seasons they have like five scenes together and don't even like each other and wtf...?' I read some fics over my Christmas break (because there has been a sad lack of Harvey/Mike fics, and I had a lot of time on my hands) and had a fic idea which I wrote basically to get it out of my head so I could go back to working on my Suits fics. I may or may not post it. Still deciding.

Anyway, I think I'll leave it there for today.

I'm also trying to get back into LJ. I've been meaning to, but it was hard because fandom is pretty much Tumblr-based. And then mel and kate said they would try, so now I'm like YAY I SHALL MAKE A MUCH MORE VALIANT EFFORT. I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

Yeah, I get why tumblr is as popular as it is, and I still love it, but there are some fandomy things that don't really work over there. Be good if we can get some activity happening back here. :O)

lol I dare say I qualify as 'old crew' :P I'm up to the same old, same old, I guess. Uni, work, etc. I did just get back from a holiday in NZ though :D My whole family went. We drove around the bottom half of the South Island, so that was great because I got to go some places I'd never been, and revisit some places I hadn't been to for yonks. :) Plus, seeing old friends and family that I haven't seen for ages. My cousins are mostly older than me and are all settling down and having kids etc so it's so weird because I remember all their kids as these tiny little babies and toddlers and then we see them all again and they're all 7, 8, 9 years old!

Hah the other thing about being in NZ was things like - we watched part of Fellowship while we were there and we could be like "Oh! We've just been there!" and I watched Narnia LWW with cast commentary on with a friend and when they got to Aslan's Camp Andrew Adamson was like "This was in Oamaru..." and I was like "Oh, I'm going there tomorrow!" so that was fun :P

You do indeed my friend. I would try and figure out how many years we've been friends but I'm afraid that would just make me feel horribly old. LOL.

I'm so jealous of your NZ trip. I still wanna get over there one day. I would totally do all the LotR and Narnia tours I could LOL. Must've been nice catching up with everyone. :O)

How's uni going? You must be nearly finished yeah? Whereabouts are you at with it???

looong time, especially in internet terms :)

I missed how wet it is, to be honest, haha. Anne doesn't like cold weather or rain, but I grew up in it so like...it's not my favourite but it doesn't worsen my mood, and I'd much rather have it cold and rainy than too hot. Particularly when we were in Fiordland, where they get like 6 or 7 metres of rain a year - 2/3 days it rains at least some. But everything so GREEN and there are waterfalls coming down off these beautiful, gorgeous mountains, and mist... We went on a cruise in Milford Sound and for the first hour or so it was raining and windy, plus the boat is also moving at a fair speed, so on the top observation deck it was really wild and woolly (like, it was hard to keep my eyes open if I was looking ahead!) so there were only 2 other people up there with me but it was heaps fun!

Ah, uni, I actually failed a subject last semester so I have one unit remaining to complete my Bachelor of Arts and then hopefully I'll get into a teaching course. I actually did get accepted into one this year but I can't take it up since I won't be course complete in time, so that's...disappointing, but also good to know that hopefully next year I have a good chance of getting in again.

It sounds amazing. I'm the same - definitely prefer the cold to the hot (which is why my last trip to NY (sooo long ago *gross sobbing*) was in Dec - escaped summer here and had cold and snow(!) there). Man, it must've been nice seeing all that green. I was seriously just thinking the other day as I was driving around how much I miss all the green.

Do you have pics anywhere???

Aww, bb, that sucks. Hope this semester goes smoothly so you can get into teaching. (sidenote: so many people I know have gotten into education - so weird lol)

Don't get me started on Teen Wolf's popularity. Why can't the world see that Harvey/Mike is a superior pairing to Sterek in every way possible?? WHYYY??? I will never understand why Suits doesn't have the biggest fandom in fandom. Even White Collar has a bigger fandom than us, and White Collar does not have a Harvey Specter!

Good luck with the interview. Some advice that helped me when i recently interviewed for a job: do tons of prep, take notes in with you, and prepare several questions for the interviewers, the more interesting the better. Turn the interview into a 50-50 conversation if at all possible. You'll blow them away! :)

I know! How is the fandom so small when the show is so awesome (and I keep hearing about how it's the highest rated show on usa and the highest rated show in it's timeslot and all that jazz and still nothing. where are all the fans damnit?!?!)

Thanks for that. I'm so busy at my current job (it's one of my busiest times of the year) that I've barely even thought about it to be honest. Which is probably a good thing - otherwise I would think about it too much and start stressing about it and get so nervous.

sterek - for me it wasn't the fact that they didn't like each other, because my otp's often clash, it was just...not obvious to me. I mean, once I knew it was a thing, I saw it but before that...I would've been more inclined to see Derek/Scott, if anything, or Derek/Jackson. baffled by how fandom works.

I don't understand the problems people have with Suits season 2 when I'm still writhing in the perfection (so not me trying to start shit, just sharing my confusion - valid for people to dislike things even when I can't fathom why. maybe you can help me with that.)

Exactly. I mean, I get the dynamic, and why people love it. I assume a lot of it is to do with Stiles being the favourite of pretty much everyone and Derek being so damn hot. And the whole enemies to friends/lovers thing is appealing. But when I first watched it I was boggled at how little they had to do with each other or even seemed to like each other in canon given how massive the fandom is.

I've spoken at length on tumblr about my issues with season two (although that may have been before we were following each other). Basically, for me, what it all boils down to is tone. I feel like the tone of the show is wildly different in season two. I'm all for giving the characters more depth and expanding on relationship and all that. I don't even mind changing from single episode storylines to story arcs over a whole season. I just feel like the way it was exectued wasn't the best.

It's a lot darker and there is so much more tension and angst. And if you like that, more power to you. But for me, there needs to be shades of light and dark and it feels like it was all dark. With Harvey's downwards spiral with the lawsuit and the Donna being fired storyline and Louis always getting screwed over (and screwing over everyone) and the ridiculousness of the on/off Mike/Rachel and now Mike with his Grammy and getting high and his downwards spiral and it's just so much. It's been kinda unrelenting, with only a few light moments inbetween for us as viewers to catch our breath (seriously the only things I can think of are: Harvey/Mike Atlantic escpades and Louis/Rachel boding over ballet and Harvey/Mike getting high and ... that's kinda it).

I've definitely seen split opinions, and I don't begrudge people like yourself who have zero issues with season two (if anything I'm jealous coz I wish I enjoyed it as much now as I did in season one). But yeah, those are the main issues I (and a few others I've spoken to) have.

I totally support your and Kate's attempts to get fandom happening back on LJ. Well done you. :O)

I can see that. it is a definite tone shift from season 1 to 2, it just happened to be a tone shift that worked for me. I wish you still enjoyed it as much as season one too. that's always a bummer, even when you do still enjoy it.

I can definitely take a darker tone - I'm hoping things improve for PH eventually and we get a little bit of lightness again, but for me, the hurdles are more aligned with how well they write themselves out of corners they write themselves INTO, and whether the characters develop and react in a way I believe - season two cleared those bars with room to spare, so it worked for me

I don't think I would mind it as much if it wasn't so constant. Like if it got this heavy every 2 or 3 eps, it would be like the best of both worlds. But having it constantly be so dark in tone just doesn't work for me as well as being so constantly light in tone. Like the last few eps of season one were slightly darker in tone with what Harvey was going through, and that was fine. But then in season two it's all dark and for me personally, it's too much.

I gotta say, I love having all the conversations I've been having on LJ the last few days. It's been awesome. :O)

Overall I haven't really gotten into any new fandoms. I just haven't had the time this year! I am having fun with my Harry Potter AU-from-the-start fic that I started posting to FF.Net/Portkey/AO3 this year.

There were definitely some good times. And either it's calmed down now that the movies are done or I'm just phenomenally successful in keeping to my corner of HP fandom, because I don't see the shipping wars flack the way I used to. I hesitated posting my fic to FF.net because I didn't want to deal with flaming reviews from canon-thumpers. But the reviews have been great overall, other than people misremembering canon and thinking that Harry got his first Hogwarts letter on his birthday...
