when fandom and real life collide...

Was just on Facebook and saw a friend comment on one of their friends photo uploads. It was this:



I really don’t like seeing Fandom things bleed into my real life. They should be two seperate things people! Why would you put something like this on your facebook????

I set up facebook primarily for fannish activities. Where real-life people are involved, they're the oddities, and I make it clear to them that it's part of my fannish space, and I'm not there to talk babysitting or reminisce about Dad. One relative, who wouldn't take the hint, got blocked.

That said, I also don't believe in letting my fannish life be a dirty little secret. It's pathetically easy to connect my fandom activities with my real name, and that's by design, so maybe I'm not one to talk.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just of the belief that when it comes to FB it should be one or the other. I'm not ashamed of my fannish side, but I also think that unless you are awere of fandom and have some experience with it (which most of my real life people dont) then it can be weird and confronting for them seeing fandom stuff. Maybe it's just me? *shrugs*

Also haha I've just realised, despite having seen that image probably hundred of times for years and years, it's only just occurred to me - why on earth is Harry wearing his glasses in bed? Although to be fair, Harry's an odd sort who wears his glasses in the bath too, so who knows.

My fandom life/LJ, etc, has NO connection to my 'name' online. NONE. I'm sure I've slipped up somewhere, but it hasn't become an issue yet. ♥

Yep I'm the same as you...I'm not on Facebook but I'm on things like Twitter and have a separate LJ for my 'non-fan life', cos as much as I love HP and being a fan etc, I have a life that goes on outside of that. Also, I don't think I'd want people in my non-HP life knowing about the fan stuff I'm into!!!

Exactly! I think non-fandomers just dont get it and are judgy about it all. Better to keep the two seperated at all times.

I'm with you here, I'm fan of Harry Potter on Facebook but that's just it, the rest is all "real-life".
But it must come as a shock for people outside the fandom to suddenly see something like this on some random Facebook lol

Yeah. Most of the comments were along the lines of 'WTF' and 'please explain' etc. Those poor people have probably had their innocent little world shattered. LOL.
