Title: Shifting Perspectives
Ships: Remus/Hermione
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: Say it with me now ~ me ... don't ... own.
Summary: Harry & Ron, Molly & Ginny and Fred & George all discuss Hermione and Remus. Everyone sees things differently.
Authors Notes: I set out to write two fics. One that had the same situation from different viewpoints. One that was about a couple that never appeared in the actual fic. I ended up combining those two ideas into one fic. This one. Enjoy.
Shifting Perspectives
.. I ..
Harry looked up from his thick tome, confusion on his face.
“Ron.”
Ron looked up from his own book. “Yeah?”
“Do you know where Hermione is? I need her help with this spell.”
Ron shrugged. “Last I saw she was in the library with Lupin.”
Harry smiled. “I shoulda known. Those two are always together, studying and dueling and what not.” He chuckled. “You should have seen them the other day, after their training. I bumped into them leaving the study and they were both out of breath, their hair messed up, their clothes ripped. They really don’t hold back. And Hermione was grinning like a mad woman; probably just mastered some ridiculously advanced spell. Considering how often they are cloistered away, I think Remus must be teaching Hermione every spell and curse he knows.”
“Yeah, I think Hermione still sees Lupin as her teacher,” Ron replied, with his trademark she-must-be-mental look. “She is forever asking him questions.”
Harry shrugged. “Yeah, well, I guess that’s Hermione for you,” he grinned.
“So, should we go and get her?”
“Nah,” Harry replied, returning to his book. “Let them study. I’ll ask her later.”
.. II ..
Molly Weasley dipped a finger into the bubbling sauce. She tasted the pasta sauce and, convinced it was ready, removed the pot from the stove.
Ginny walked into the kitchen. “When’s dinner?”
“In a few minutes, dear. Where is everyone?”
“Ron and Harry are in their room. Fred and George are outside. And I think Hermione and Lupin are in the library.”
“Ah, that’s right. I remember Remus saying he had something new to teach Hermione. A new spell, I think. He was so excited about it too, his face all lit up. It’s sweet they are such good friends.”
“Yeah,” Ginny replied, testing the sauce for herself. “It makes sense. They are pretty similar.”
Molly stood for a moment, considering this statement. “Yes, I suppose they are.”
The pot on the stove cooking the pasta boiled over. Molly turned to it and took it off the fire.
“Well, dinner is just about ready. Go and get the boys, will you?”
Ginny nodded. She walked out of the kitchen, but just after passing the threshold, she turned back. “What about Hermione and Lupin?”
“Let them finish their training. We’ll save some food for them. No doubt they’ll be hungry later.”
Ginny nodded once more and left the kitchen.
.. III ..
“Careful, George! That nearly took my head off.”
“Sorry, Fred. Not my fault though.”
Fred and George were flying in the backyard, hitting a bludger back and forth between them.
“Oi,” Ginny called from the back door. “Dinner!”
She promptly returned inside and the twins touched down onto the ground. They packed away their Quidditch gear and headed inside.
“Seen the Dream Team today?” George asked his twin.
“Not really. Harry and Ron were going over the latest spells and Hermione was with Lupin, training,” he replied, making quotation marks for the last word.
“Oh. Training, huh?”
“Yup.”
George opened the door for Fred, bowing gallantly as he did so. They made their way upstairs, briefly pausing in front of the closed library door. They stood there silently for a few moments and were rewarded with the noise of dull thuds and low grunts.
They continued upstairs and went into their bedroom, closing the door behind them.
George said, “They’re shagging, aren’t they?”
Fred grinned. “Oh, yeah.”
